Michelle Pinder, Florida Homeowner, Finds Squatters In House The Night Before Closing Sale

After her mother passed away, Michelle Pinder was anxious to sell her mom's home and move on with her life. But when a realtor came to do a final round of checks the day before the sale closed, she was greeted by a startling surprise.

Unbeknownst to Pinder, an entire family had moved into her home, CBS4 News reports.

?I show up and there are people outside and the door is open and I?m like what?s going on? Why are people in this house? I go up to them and ask them excuse me who are you?? Brittany Barreto, Pinder?s realtor, told CBS4 News.

Ibet Flores Castano, the woman living in Pinder?s house with her young daughter and another man, presented authorities with an alleged lease and said she paid rent in cash for the property to a man who alleged to be the owner. Unfortunately, the the phone number the supposed "landlord" provided belongs to a store that claims to have never heard of him and his address doesn?t exist.

Pinder is taking the case to court, but the buyers of her mother?s property are threatening to walk away from the deal.

Squatting has been a serious issue in Florida since the housing crisis began in 2008, ABC News reports.

In the state of Florida, citizens are legally allowed to take ownership of a deserted piece of property, the Florida Times-Union reports. The original purpose of the law, known as adverse possession, was to allow people to live in deserted houses in order to revitalize neighborhoods where homes had been abandoned. The law requires tenants to pay taxes and have consent from the property's owner.

In the wake of the housing crisis in Florida, the law has paved the way for some to illegally claim ownership over the many foreclosed or vacant properties across the state, the Insurance Journal reports.

In 2011, nearly 20 percent of Florida houses were vacant due to foreclosures and abandonment, CNNMoney reports. In March, three people were arrested for illegally taking over not one, but five of Florida?s vacant homes to live in or rent out to others, according to the Miami Association of Realtors.

Squatting is a problem in other abandoned neighborhoods across the country as well. A homeowner in Detroit who abandoned her rundown home returned to find a woman had moved in and refused to leave. The squatter changed the locks and put in new appliances.

Parents: Living A Healthy Lifestyle Better Than Talking To Teens ...

From The Examiner?..

A new study shows that when parents model a healthy lifestyle, that lifestyle is more effective than just talking to teens when it comes to obesity topics, according to EurekAlert?s press release on Nov. 8.

Researchers at the Institute of Medicine, Committee on Prevention of Obesity in Children and Youth found when parents create a home environment complete with healthy behaviors (along with encouragement and support), teens are less likely to become defensive about being overweight.

Childhood obesity is a rising problem contributing to detrimental short-term and long-term health effects. Up to 33 percent of children and teens are obese. The numerous problems include type 2 diabetes and psychosocial consequences. If one parent is obese, there is a 50 percent chance the child will be obese in adulthood. If both parents are obese, the chances catapult to 80 percent that the child will also be obese.

Obese teens tend to have a much lower self-esteem and be less popular with their peers. Unfortunately, according to the American Academy of Child & Adolescence Psychiatry, depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder can occur parallel with the lowered self-esteem and unpopularity.

Parents feel they lose control with their teen?s decisions about eating and physical activities. When parents try to talk about the teen?s unhealthy lifestyle, it may cause negative responses such as sadness or angst in the teen.

Is it normal for teens to strive for autonomy, it is how they learn about personal responsibility. But it?s a very emotional time for them and talking about weight issues can make the teen feel inept and also be very frustrating for the parents, as well.

The recent study is good news for parents struggling with teens who are obese. The results support an alternative method for helping the teen with weight issues other than confronting them in discussion.

PFT: Tebow still considered most overrated

Darren Sproles, Will HerringAP

Now that high school football season has ended, I no longer have an easy excuse for weaseling out of the weekly injury report roundup.

So I guess I?ll do it again.

When does high school basketball season start?

Falcons at Saints

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon is out again, with an ankle he sprained 12 days ago.? Both starting defensive tackles are questionable:? Jonathan Babineaux (hamstring) and Peria Jerry (knee).? Saints running back Darren Sproles (hand) will miss a second game, and right tackle Zach Strief (groin) will be a scratch.

Bills at Patriots

Buffalo defensive end Mark Anderson (knee) is out once again, and receiver Stevie Johnson (thigh) is questionable.? In all, six of the team?s defensive lineman are on the report, possibly as an ongoing jab at the league office for the Mario Williams fine.? For the Pats, 14 players are questionable, including tight ends Rob Gronkowski (hip) and Aaron Hernandez (ankle), and receivers Brandon Lloyd (knee) and Wes Welker (ankle).

Cowboys at Eagles

Dallas center Phil Costa (ankle) is out again; he has played in fewer than seven quarters all season.? Running back DeMarco Murray (foot) will miss a fourth straight game, and linebacker Sean Lee?s replacement, Dan Conner, is doubtful with a neck injury.? The Eagles are healthy, apart from guard Danny Watkins (ankle) being out again ? and tackle Todd Herremans (foot) being placed on IR.

Broncos at Panthers

Denver guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and cornerback Tracy Porter (illness) are out.? Otherwise, no Broncos are more banged up than probable.

Lions at Vikings

Receiver Calvin Johnson (knee, not concussion or nerve damage) is questionable, along with receiver Titus Young (knee) and defensive end Cliff Avril (back).? For Minnesota, receiver Percy Harvin (ankle) and defensive tackle Letroy Guion (knee) are doubtful.? No other Vikings players are less than probable.

Giants at Bengals

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) is once again questionable.? Despite swelling in his knee earlier in the week, receiver Hakeem Nicks is probable.

Jets at Seahawks

Running back Joe McKnight (ankle) is out, and running back Bilal Powell (shoulder) is questionable.? Also questionable is linebacker Bart Scott, who missed the team?s last game in Week Eight with a toe injury.? Seahawks guard James Carpenter and linebacker K.J. Wright (concussion) are both out with concussions.

Raiders at Ravens

Running backs Mike Goodson (ankle) and Darren McFadden (ankle) are out, along with defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee,?hamstring) and cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot).? For the Ravens, defensive lineman Haloti Ngata (shoulder), guard Bobbie Williams (ankle), and guard Marshal Yanda (ankle) are out.

Chargers at Buccaneers

For San Diego, linebacker Antwan Barnes (hamstring) is out, and tackle Jared Gaither (groin) and defensive end Corey Liuget (hamstring) are questionable.

Rams at 49ers

St. Louis receiver Danny Amendola is questionable, but he has said he?ll play for the first time after suffering a serious collarbone injury five weeks ago.? The 49ers have no one listed lower than probable.

Titans at Dolphins

Quarterback Jake Locker (shoulder) is probable and will start.? The team?s top three wideouts (Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Kendall Wright) also are listed as probable.? All key Dolphins are no worse than probable.

Texans at Bears

Houston defensive tackle Shaun Cody (ribs) and running back Ben Tate (hamstring) are out.? Tight end Owen Daniels (back) is questionable.? Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery is doubtful with a broken hand.

Top Benefits For Using Blown-In Insulation Products In Your House

The new houses that are being constructed have pretty high standards that must be met for energy efficiency. However, that can?t be said for elderly homes. The simplest way to make an older house a great deal more energy efficient is to use insulation. This may not be straightforward to do with the outer side walls, but can be done easily with blown-in insulation in the attic. The heat retaining material will keep your house warmer during the winter and cooler over the summer. If you reside in a rather old house, you may basically have newspapers in your wall for insulation.

You will notice that insulation technology is amazingly advanced because of our concern for conserving energy and saving the environment. Insulation components have something called an R-value, which is put to use to determine the amount of insulation needed based on what part of the country you live. Very cold locations have to have a considerably higher R-value, than places with moderate temperatures. One of the best products to be identified for cutting down heating costs is blown-in insulation. There are several benefits for using this type of insulation over the standard rolls of fiberglass insulation, such as where it can be used, energy efficiency, and how it is installed.

There are numerous good reasons why blown-in insulation would be the way to go, one of them is that it can easily be adjusted. You have the ability to control the actual R-value for insulation by adjusting the degree of insulation you use. Blow in so many inches to have an R-value of 15, and so much more if you would need an R-value of 38. Another benefit for implementing blown-in, is that the majority of products use virgin materials, that have lowered the chance of allergies. Youll also have a more efficient seal considering that the materials can fill in cracks and crevices. The application is quick, and given that everything is filled in, it is very energy-efficient.

The installation of blown-in insulation is straightforward on a newly framed house. All that is done is staple a netting over the exterior wall studs, then cut a few little holes, stick in the hose, and load up the wall cavity. The insulating product blown in adheres to the studs, and totally fills all of the empty spaces. Afterward you contain the wall with vapor barrier and after that drywall it.? To do attic insulation, you must drywall the ceiling first then go into the attic and blow it in from there. Its tougher with older homes since the wall covering will need to be removed. Once the wall covering is removed, the steps are pretty much exactly the same. If you live in a very old house, you can actually just drill a hole in a wall and blow the insulation in, then cover it up.

?

rogue agent x ?While the preliminary cost is high, it will pay itself in the long run. With lower power costs and a warmer home, using blown-in insulation makes the most sense.

"Ghost Exchange" film questions runaway stock market technology

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Washington-based filmmaker is taking a hard look at how the U.S. stock market evolved from a crowded, noisy trading space into a quiet one dominated by machines in her new film, "Ghost Exchange."

The feature-length documentary film portrays the market as a system in need of serious repair, with flaws that could be costing the U.S. economy some 20 million jobs.

The film is being released amid growing attention to problems in the stock market. Investors have been pulling money out of stocks despite the major indexes approaching the highs before the 2008-09 global financial crisis.

Following the near collapse of market-making giant Knight Capital after a trading software glitch on August 1, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission held a roundtable on stock market technology. Meanwhile, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is getting ready to consider a concept release with ideas for better regulation of electronic trading.

Day-to-day events in the stock market have kept attention focused on high frequency trading. On Wednesday, traders blamed the high-speed machines for a quick, sharp dip in the price of AT&T shares following the company's earnings report. AT&T's stock fell from $34.50 to $33 and bounced back in just four seconds.

The creator of "Ghost Exchange," Camilla Sullivan, a documentarian and marketing professional who wrote and directed the film herself and produced it with her partner, Rob Lyall, said she hopes it will spur regulators and industry leaders to work together to repair the system.

"Are we taking care of and nurturing our capital markets or do we have the potential to lose something very important?" Sullivan said in an interview with Reuters.

"The market has evolved far more quickly than the regulators can regulate," she added. "We're not saying it's their fault. They barely have the skills or the technology or the resources to process the changes."

HIGH-FREQUENCY TRADING

For the film, Sullivan interviewed two of the most outspoken critics of high-frequency trading, Themis Trading co-founders Joe Saluzzi and Sal Arnuk. She also spoke with Direct Edge Chief Executive William O'Brien, Vanguard Group Chief Investment Officer George Sauter and Seth Merrin, the president and chief executive of Liquidnet Holdings.

"Everyone that we selected to interview for this film we believe are the type of industry leaders you would want," Sullivan said.

Sullivan said she is in talks with distributors to try to get "Ghost Exchange" out to the public, and she has submitted the film to "all of the major festivals."

A former corporate communications executive originally from Sydney, Sullivan moved to the United States and began making films in 2007. Through her production company, Arbitrage Pictures, she is also planning a documentary that focuses specifically on initial public offerings.

The drop in the number of IPOs is what Sullivan says is costing the U.S. economy millions of jobs. Citing expert research, Sullivan said small companies' inability to access the stock market in the current environment is preventing new hiring and making it impossible for companies to take bold risks.

In addition to the film company, Sullivan runs Visionista, a Washington-based video marketing company.

She said her interest in the U.S. stock market was driven by her background in finance. When the Dow Jones industrial average plunged 700 points in a matter of seconds on May 6, 2010 in what was later called the "flash crash," it grabbed her attention. High-frequency traders have been blamed for pulling out of the market when stock prices started to fall, accelerating the drop in prices.

"I didn't realize the majority of trades in the United States are executed by computer, and not just by computer but by algorithm. What's that doing to the structure and shape of capital markets?"

But "Ghost Exchange" doesn't focus solely on high-frequency trading. It also deals with issues like order types, tick sizes, and the segmentation that has separated access to large-cap and small-cap stocks in recent years.

Sullivan has concluded that regulators and the industry need to work more closely with each other to fix individual problems. She also believes the SEC should add more market experts to its staff and beef up its presence in New York and Chicago, the centers of U.S. trading.

The SEC's new Office of Analytics and Research, which will focus on monitoring markets and analyzing trading data, is "a good first step," Sullivan said.

"I think it's good that they have the same technology on the outside that the industry has on the inside," she said.

New cell phone mobile wallet service launches | SellCell.com Blog

Posted on October 25, 2012, 7:44 am, by Craig Timmins, under Cell Phone News.

Ever since smart phones first became a dominant player on the cell phone scene, there have been predictions that someday, in the not so distant future, these handheld devices would begin to double as mobile wallets, freeing people from the need to drag out credit cards or cash to complete a transaction.? There seems to be no doubt at this point that the mobile wallet concept will shortly become a reality, but there remain key questions about which system or service will finally triumph in the end.

A new contender has just entered the contest for mobile wallet dominance: Isis, which has become available to cell phone customers in two major cities: Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas.? So far, the service is available for those who have service with T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon.? To use Isis, cell phone customers need to obtain an Isis SIM card that will enable their phone to conduct near field communications transactions.? Such cards will not run on every phone in existence, however.? T-Mobile customers, for example, will need to have a Samsung phone in the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2, or S Relay 4G lines.

Anyone who decides to get a new phone in order to use Isis should do the responsible thing with their existing handset and look for a cell phone buyback program.? This will provide them with a little bit of cash but more importantly it will ensure that their old cell phone gets properly recycled.

Doctors call for sports designation for cheerleading

[unable to retrieve full-text content]

Source: www.nashuatelegraph.com --- Tuesday, October 23, 2012
CHICAGO ? Cheerleading isn?t just jumping and waving pompoms ? it has become as athletic and potentially as dangerous as a sport and should be designated one to improve safety, the nation?s leading group of pediatricians says. The number of cheerleaders injured each year has climbed dramatically in the last two decades. Common stunts that pose risks include tossing and flipping cheerleaders in the air and creating human pyramids that reach 15 feet high or more. In a new policy statement released online Monday in the journal Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics says school Sports associations should designate cheerleading as a sport, and make it subject to safety rules and better supervision. That would include on-site athletic trainers, limits on practice time and better qualified coaches, the academy says. ...

HUFFPOST HILL - Debate Three: Look Who's Talking NOW

Tonight's debate is competing with both the NLCS and Monday Night Football, but at least the hockey moms and NASCAR dads will tune in. Todd Akin compared Claire McCaskill to a dog, though we're pretty sure Akin's the one who is more likely to rub his butt across a carpet. And the Romney campaign has run an inordinate number of ads during "The Andy Griffith Show," probably in an attempt to shore up the "people who say 'Gosh!' vote. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Monday, October 22nd, 2012:

FINAL DEBATE ON FOREIGN POLICY, THAT THING NO ONE CARES ABOUT - Moderator Bob Schieffer has announced the topics to be discussed this evening: 1. "America's Role in the World." 2. "Our Longest War -- Afghanistan and Pakistan." 3. "Red Lines -- Israel and Iran." 4. "The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism." 5. "The Rise of China and Tomorrow's World." No one can say how many times the president will pivot to Osama bin Laden's death ("You know who can't suffer from China's unfair currency manipulation?") or just how much the China question will become a screaming match about Toledo's job market, but we'll witness both at least once.

It's going to be an uphill battle, Josh Hersh reports: "[T]here's reason to see an ominous sign for a president who has thrown his support behind the popular uprisings in countries like Egypt and Libya: ...After a wave of protests at several American embassies in countries like Tunisia and Egypt, and the devastating attack on an American diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, Obama has increasingly had to defend his policy of supporting the democratic transitions, despite the chaos some seem to have brought with them...But the American public is showing signs of growing restless. One recent poll from the Pew Research Center found that a majority of Americans do not believe the Arab revolutions will improve life in those countries. Fifty-four percent agreed that it is more important to have stability than democracy...More worrisome for the Obama campaign are the indications that his lead on foreign policy matters has been slipping somewhat, especially since the September attack in Benghazi. A recent Wall Street Journal poll gave the president an eight point lead over Romney, 46 percent to 38 percent, down seven points from the year before." [HuffPost]

As always, we will live-tweet the debate from our beauty tips resource/Twitter account@HuffPostHill

GEORGE ROMNEY: PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IS HARD - In a 1964 letter to state lawmakers, Michigan Gov. George Romney talked about opportunity in America like a true Occupier. "It is a paradox that in the midst of an affluent society and a booming state economy, the impoverished, the helpless, and the jobless are visible all around us," the elder Romney wrote. Mitt Romney has suggested success in America is a matter of just being born here. Not what dad thought: "The facts of the matter are these. First, that a prosperous economy does not guarantee prosperity to all of our citizens. Secondly, that we have legal and moral commitments in connections with the subsistence, support, care and dignity or those in need. But more important is hope based on concern and opportunity. Third, that our ability to meet these obligations means the prudent expenditure of tax dollars." Hat tip to freelance oppo researcher James Carter for finding the letter.

CHANGE.ORG WILL SEE YOU NOW, AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE - Change.org, the leading online social movement company, has decided to reject its founding progressive principles and embrace corporate advertising, Republican party solicitations, astroturf campaigns, pro-life or anti-union ads and other sponsorships that its liberal base of users may object to, according to internal company documents. The change will be implemented on Monday, Oct. 22, but the company wasn't planning to tell its base of progressive users. "[W]e have no plans to proactively tell users about the new design or our new mission, vision, or advertising guidelines," reads a company document which, along with several other internal documents, was leaked to Jeff Bryant of the Campaign for America's Future, a liberal organization, and subsequently provided to The Huffington Post. Change.org, according to its leadership FAQ, will by Monday include new "awesome language about what Change.org is" on its website. "The biggest operational change will be to our advertising guidelines (previously known as our 'client policy'), which will now be a Google-like open advertising policy in which determinations about which advertisements we'll accept are based on the content of the ad, not the group doing the advertising," reads the FAQ. Nevertheless, the company's new policy does allow it to reject an ad if accepting it threatens the firm's "brand."

SOUP KITCHEN VISITED BY PAUL RYAN NOT DEAD - Jason Cherkis: "The soup kitchen facing a donor backlash in the wake of Paul Ryan's embarrassing photo op has been rescued by the internet. The day after HuffPost broke the kitchen's sad news, Corey Snow of Olympia Washington, organized an online fundraising drive on the charity's behalf. In about 30 hours, Snow had raised $10,000. By Monday morning, donations had reached more than $12,600. Snow said that he was upset that the most needy would become pawns in presidential politics. 'People are hungry regardless of whether you vote Democrat or Republican,' he said. 'I thought it was not cool that they were pulling donations.' Snow, who has talked with the charity's director, plans on keeping the campaign going long past the election. He plans on turning in his donations to the soup kitchen by mid December. 'The election will still be over but people will still be hungry,' he said. The campaign site link is http://www.indiegogo.com/svdp-soupkitchen. There is also a direct donation site set up by the Mahoning County Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at http://mahoningsvdp.org, and of course the national site at http://svdpusa.org.

DAILY DELANEY DOWNER - Rick Scott's unemployment reforms are very effective, and things are getting better and better. "Florida ranks last in the nation for the rate of unemployed people receiving state benefits and in January its going to become even stingier. The eligible weeks of unemployment insurance benefits will shrink to 19 from 23. September's unemployment rate of 8.7 percent released Friday sealed the deal. And worker advocates say the state has put other changes to the system in place that stymie eligible unemployed people from getting benefits." [Palm Beach Postt]

POLL: VOTERS DISAPPROVE OF BENGHAZI RESPONSE - You might say that these polling numbers are not ... wait for it ... wait for it ... optimal. Nailed it. Emily Swanson: "[A] new HuffPost poll has found that the president's handling of the attacks on the US mission in Benghazi is a potential weakness within what has been a strong issue area for Obama. The new survey found that a 41 percent to 32 percent plurality of US adults do not approve of Obama's handling of the attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya. Obama's approval on the issue is starkly divided along party lines, with Democrats approving 63 percent to 9 percent and Republicans disapproving 80 percent to 7 percent. A 41 percent to 24 percent plurality of independents said they do not approve of Obama's handling of the issue." [HuffPost]

ROMNEY CAMP SPREADING THE LOVE, TEAM OBAMA A BUNCH OF SELFISH JERKS - Elizabeth Warren would gladly pay you Tuesday for an ad buy today. Sam Stein: "The Mitt Romney campaign victory fund has transferred a total of $6 million to the National Republican Senatorial Committee and $6 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to campaign finance records. The latest transfers came during the month of September, when the NRSC and the NRCC each received $4.5 million in funds from the Romney campaign victory fund. The transfers contrast sharply with President Barack Obama's strategy, which has been to more or less let allied campaign committees fend for themselves. They illustrate how election law constraints and broader strategic visions have affected each candidate's relationship to others in his party during the 2012 election." [HuffPost]

OBAMA HAS EDGE IN NEVADA EARLY VOTING - National Journal: "About 53 percent of the voters who turned out on Saturday and Sunday in Clark County, the state's most populous, were Democrats, while just 31 percent were Republicans. The 22-point disparity is higher than the 15 points by which Democrats outnumber Republicans -- a sign, the party says, of the field organization Sen. Harry Reid and Nevada Democrats have spent a decade building. Early voting in Washoe County, home to Reno, showed a similar Democratic advantage. Registered voters in the state's bellwether county split evenly, 38 percent for both Democrats and Republicans. Over the weekend, Democrats made up 47 percent of those casting ballots early, compared with 38 percent for Republicans, a nine-point Democratic advantage." [National Journal]

Amanda Terkel reports from Wisconsin, where early voting is underway.

OBAMA STILL HOLDS MUY GRANDE LEAD AMONG LATINO VOTERS - Sadly for Mitt Romney, his dream campaign strategy of being Latino will never come to fruition, though we don't think people care about the pigmentation of the person trying to deport their friends. Politico: "In the NBC/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo national poll's oversample of Latino voters, Obama draws 70 percent of likely Latino voters to Mitt Romney's 25 percent. (Among registered voters, Obama gets 69 percent to Romney's 23 percent.) The latest impreMedia-Latino Decisions tracking poll has very similar results: 71 percent of registered voters said they would support Obama while 20 percent planned to vote for Romney." [Politico]

A thermal aircraft with a Romney advertisement on it crash landed in Florida, injuring no one and delighting metaphor enthusiasts.

CAMPAIGNS THINK YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF STEREOTYPES - That's according to an analysis by Yahoo News of TV spending by Democrats, Republicans and their allies. Yahoo: "'The Andy Griffith Show' is the second-most Republican-leaning program in the country, as measured by the partisanship of the political ads that run during its episodes. Only the Olympics saw a higher percentage of Republican ads, according to a Yahoo News analysis of the filings reported to the Federal Communications Commission by the TV stations in the top 50 media markets. '2 Broke Girls' swung the most heavily to the Democrats--surprising, perhaps, given that the title evokes Mitt Romney's message that the economy is floundering under President Barack Obama's stewardship. (It is not surprising if you consider the subject: single women.) 'Judge Joe Brown' came in second." [Yahoo News]

American Bridge's new Missouri campaign mailer plays Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comments when opened. Sadly, it doesn't say "My name is judge."

TODD AKIN CALLS CLAIRE MCCASKILL A DOG - The Republican Senate candidate's thoughts on women have blown right by "misogynistic" and are barreling toward "drunk Viking" at an alarming speed. PoliticsMO: "Akin made the comparison during a fundraising event in Springfield, where he featured support from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, one of the few national Republicans still backing Akin after much of the party establishment distanced themselves from his candidacy following the controversy earlier in the race surrounding his comments about 'legitimate rape.' 'She goes to Washington, D.C., it's a little bit like one of those dogs, 'fetch,'' he said. 'She goes to Washington, D.C., and get all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri.'" [PoliticsMO]

@rickwtyler: If Claire McCaskill were a dog, she'd be a "Bullshitsu",

BECAUSE YOU'VE READ THIS FAR - Husky sings along to Gwen Stefani.

DC: NOT A SWING DISTRICT - HuffPost DC: "This photo pretty much sums up Mitt Romney's chances to win the District of Columbia's three electoral votes." [HuffPost]

Late Eli-Cruz bomb lifts Giants over 'Skins

Wide receiver catches 77-yard touchdown pass with 1:13 left to win it

Image: Cruz scores touchdownGetty Images

Victor Cruz runs away from Redskins defenders Madieu Williams (41) and Josh Wilson (26) on a 77-yard touchdown late in the game.

By TOM CANAVAN

updated 6:26 p.m. ET Oct. 21, 2012

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - While Robert Griffin III is quickly becoming the NFL's most exciting quarterback, there's none better than Eli Manning with the game on the line.

Manning one-upped the Washington Redskins' rookie sensation with a pinpoint 77-yard scoring pass to Victor Cruz with 1:13 to play and the New York Giants overcame a late touchdown toss by Griffin to defeat the Washington Redskins 27-23 on Sunday.

"With our offense and Eli at the helm, we're never too worried," Cruz said. "No matter what situation we're in, no matter how many points we need or a field goal we need, we have the confidence we can do it. We have a lot of confidence in each other, and in Eli."

The winning drive was the 22nd of Manning's career in either the fourth quarter or overtime, his second this season and eighth over the past two seasons. This pass might have been one of the most improbable.

It came two plays and 19 seconds after Griffin capped what was a potential winning, 77-yard drive with a 30-yard touchdown toss to Santana Moss. The rookie had kept the drive alive with a 19-yard pass off a desperate scramble on a fourth-and-10 play deep in his own territory, and a 24-yard run on the next play.

"He has done it so many times," veteran Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty said of the two-time Super Bowl MVP. "He has really bridged his performance in the 2011 season to the 2012 season. It's just more of the same. He continues to get better. He is probably the most deadly quarterback in the fourth quarter."

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan agreed even though he was miffed that defensive backs Josh Wilson and Madieu Williams allowed Cruz to blow by them on the seam pattern.

"He sure proved it today," Shanahan said after his team (3-4) blew a chance to move into a tie for first place in the NFC East. "It was a great throw. He was double- covered but (Manning) put it right on the money."

Manning, who finished 26 of 40 for 337 yards, had to make the throw a little sooner than he wanted.

"I kind of threw it high and deep and saw the coverage and was hoping Victor saw it the same way I did," he said. "I didn't see the ball get caught. I heard the cheer and that was a good sign. I got up in time to see him run into the end zone."

Manning triumphantly pumped his fist once after the play as the more than 80,000 fans at MetLife Stadium erupted with cheers.

"He did a good job leading his team to victory today," said Griffin, who ran for 89 yards and passed for 258 and two touchdowns. "When the game is on the line, you want the ball in your hand, no doubt about it. He made the play to win it."

Griffin had Washington moving when Moss was tackled by Chase Blackburn after an 11-yard reception and rookie Jayron Hosley recovered at the Washington 43.

"There's no excuse for them, but with all that stuff, we had a chance to win at the end," Griffin said.

The wild finish capped a game in which both quarterbacks also made major mistakes.

Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown scored on 1-yard runs and Lawrence Tynes kicked a pair of field goals for the Giants, who won despite giving up 480 yards in total offense.

Griffin was 20 of 28 with Moss catching both his TD passes. Fellow rookie Alfred Morris gained 120 yards rushing.

The Giants had 396 yards in total offense, with the biggest chunk coming on Manning's pass to Mr. Salsa.

Before the wild finish, the second half was dominated by turnovers.

Griffin was picked off by safety Stevie Brown and his 41-yard return late in the third quarter set up Bradshaw's 1-yard plow-job into the end zone, a play which was reviewed.

Griffin moved Washington into position to tie the game on the next possession, but he fumbled after being sacked by Jason Pierre-Paul and Linval Joseph recovered the ensuring fumble at the Giants 29.

On the next play from scrimmage, linebacker Rob Jackson intercepted a quick out by Manning and Forbath kicked a 45-yard field goal to narrow the lead to 20-16 with 5:21 to go.

The Giants were forced to punt on their next series and Washington got the ball back at its 23. After gaining nothing in three plays, Griffin went back to pass on fourth down, eluded Pierre-Paul and then danced around long enough to find tight end Logan Paulsen for a 19-yard gain and a first down at the 42. The 24-yard scamper got the ball to the New York 34 and two plays later Moss beat Hosley and hauled in Griffin's perfect pass as Griffin lay on his back and celebrated like a snow angel.

"He's tough," Blackburn said of Griffin. We played well for three downs got them into a fourth and 10, and had him. JPP had him dead to rights. Any other quarterback and he makes that sack."

Manning and Cruz spoiled the afternoon seconds later.

There were seven offensive possessions in the first half that resulted in 439 total yards, six scores and a 13-13 tie.
