- KPMG Appoints Physician Executive Richard Bakalar to Global Healthcare Center of Excellence

KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, today announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Bakalar as the newest member of its Global Healthcare Center of Excellence (CoE).
At KPMG, Dr. Bakalar will provide senior executive leadership in clinical intelligence, focusing on next-generation healthcare data analytics and the use of e-health technologies that will enable new care delivery models.

"Richard has extensive experience as a practitioner and healthcare information technology specialist, and a deep understanding of the challenges healthcare organizations face in providing affordable healthcare of the highest quality. This expertise will greatly benefit KPMG and the healthcare organizations we serve."
Dr. Bakalar joins an internationally renowned team of colleagues in the Global Healthcare Center of Excellence including, Janet Davidson, Canada; Marc Berg, Amsterdam; Hilary Thomas, UK; Soren Eichhorst, Germany; Dr, Wai Chiong Loke, Singapore; Sue Williams, Australia; and Nigel Edwards, UK.
Before joining KPMG, Bakalar was a physician executive with Microsoft's Health Solutions Group, where he helped create and deliver innovative software solutions. Prior to that, Bakalar served as IBM's Chief Medical Officer and Medical Imaging Specialist.

Dr. Bakalar is board certified in internal and nuclear medicine and has over 25 years of clinical experience, including service as a naval flight surgeon and as medical staff in the U.S. Navy. Richard trained and supervised medical, radiology and surgical residents during his naval career.

During his Navy military service, Captain Bakalar had various overlapping roles of increasing clinical responsibilities in primary care, medical/surgical intensive care, and in nuclear medicine. Additionally, he led the development of? the Navy's first telemedicine and tele-radiology programs while he served as the Navy Surgeon General's executive assistant for ship-to-shore telemedicine initiatives worldwide. During his initial flight surgeon assignment at Quantico, Virginia, Dr. Bakalar had primary medical oversight responsibilities for the health and fitness of the U.S. Marine Corps flight crew of the Marine One (HMX-1) helicopter squadron which supported President Reagan's White House.
Dr. Bakalar has also served as president of the American Telemedicine Association and he is based in Denver, Colorado.
