Are birds good pets for teens ? - Pets Care

Hey look I really want a pet bird but I don?t know which one there are so many one of the things that kinda put me of is everybody says their noisy are there any bird out there that aren?t to loud and their long life span is there any that live a medium lifespan and I?ll be honest I don?t think I can commit to a bird like the African grey and I have a budget of ?100 for everything and are they really messy thanks for any information

Darcy i am a teen and truth be told, i really regret it. Okay, sometimes i don?t but i bought my lovebird when i was a preteen. She is sooo demanding. There are so many toys that i bought her that she don?t like! I have to take her out an hour a day or else she?ll go crazy. I might get a partner soon because i don?t have time. See what happen? Before i bought a bird i was determine to take care and cherish it but i will be busy with school when it reopens so i need to get it another bird. Owning a bird required much more responsibility than you think. You have to change their litter tray daily or else worms might breed in it if it is wet. You have to change food and water daily. You must not place your bird in a room where there is scented things such as flowers, fresheners or candles. No cooking fumes too or anything that has smell including glue and paint. During winter, your heater must NOT be a non-stick heater because non-stick products including cooking appliances will make your bird ill. If your bird is sick, you must bring it to the vet and such. Remember, if you get bored of your bird, pls get it a friend so it will not be lonely as it is lonely enough being stuck in a cage. For you, i?d suggest a budgie or a cockatiel. A cockatiel loves to sing so it is loud sometimes. Budgies aren?t loud. Budgies can live up to 10 years, cockatiels 10-15 years. I used to own a cockatiel that will perch on my monitor for hours! Budgies are playful little thing and you could let it on your shoulder for hours too! So get a cockatiel or budgie, they are good for beginners. They can talk and be taught tricks. So good luck and tell us what bird will you be getting!

Maybe something very small like a lovebird, budgie/parakeet or a cockatiel. I wouldn?t suggest anything longer lived or more complex than that. Though to be honest if you don?t want a noisy bird budgies are the only quiet one out of that list. Conures are very LOUD birds.

It takes a lot of time and energy to tame a bird and a lot of energy to keep it tame, you?re talking several hours of interaction on a daily basis for the rest of the birds life. You can?t just buy a bird and stuff it in a cage, they really are a lot of work. Only you can decide if you?re up for that work but do be honest with yourself, I wasn?t up for it at your ages.

Budgies, Parrotlets or Cockatiels are great birds to keep, they are easy (and by easy I meant not that easy but they are easier to keep than other birds), and they are very social so they require lots of love!

I don?t know about cockatiels!

yes all birds are noisy,some louder than others. but you eventually get used to it. birds love to sing so cant get away from the noise. its just what they do. i have 4 parakeets and they sing all day long. they get very loud, especially when the TV is on. but you get used to it and tune it out. half the time i dont even notice it because im so used to it. i wouldnt start with an african grey if this is your first bird.parrots require a lot of attention and care and if you never had birds before it will be hard. i would suggest to start out with parakeets. they are easy to take care of and they are good starter birds. they are easy to hand tame and they are a good size.

Generally birds are not for teens.It takes a special responsible person to commit to any bird or animal. I would start with a small dog first and if you want more of a challenge then go for it.

Trust me on this??you want some kind of conure. I?d recommend a sun conure <3 (they?re pretty popular for a reason)

As far as birds go, they are pretty low maintanence (which is NOT to say they are low maintanence!) and they make awesome pets.

I?ll let you figure out price but here?s a little info?

birds are companion/social animals. You may NOT just stick them in a cage and forget about them; they will literally go crazy and lose their feathers. When you?re around the house, you should keep the bird on your shoulder or let it fly around the house/ chill on top of its cage if you have the room?

Sun conures arent the noisiest birds in the word? they?re really vocal around sunrise and sunset and when they want your attention, but in general, we didnt mind the noise; it really wasnt that bad?To put it in perspective, i can shout louder than my bird ever squwaked? Then again, we dont have neighbors like RIGHT next to us (we have a little bit of a yard), so if you have picky neighbors close enough to be bothered? just something to think about.

A sun conure is supposed to live up to sixty years, but they live that long like a goldfish will live for 5 years?. its just not common? my bird died at around 12 years (she might?ve had a heart problem though that we never knew about?) But the life span isnt really something you need to worry about? birds make great pets. When it dies, you will be very sad, not relieved at all.

They?re super snuggle and they like to play with you and "sing" with you? They "dance" when you sing to them and over all? a bird is the best pet ive ever owned? (I have owned a dog, a cat, a lizard, a turtle, and fish lol) Only their cage is messy, but they dont shed or anything like that. SOME birds throw their seed around? but not all of them.

As a general rule of thumb, the bigger the bird, the more maintanece it is? obviously there are exceptions, but its just something to keep in mind. So if you want a REALLY lower maintanence bird, go for something small. (maybe consider getting a pair of cocketeels? they like attention too obviously, but if you dont have as much time for them as youd like, you should get them a companion bird.)

My personal favorites are the conures (im a bird person XD).

They?re high maintanence in that they need lots of attention, but for a teen? if you dont have extra curriculars, just spend time with them before and after school. they?re awesome company when youre doing your homework. They?re no more maintanence than a dog as far as picking up after them and giving them toys and stuff? My bird "kissed" me everytime I got her out? she was a total joy?

Not all birds are the same maintanece and you can keep looking around until you find one right for you? just make sure you do your research so you can give your bird a good home
