Take a look at the next PlayStation's prototype controller

What you see above is the next PlayStation's controller, at least in some version of prototype, seemingly connected to a development unit for the next PlayStation (codenamed "Orbis"). The image popped up on Destructoid a few hours ago -- we've spoken with development sources who confirmed it to be a recent version of the next PlayStation's controller and a beta unit of the dev kit, though it's not clear how much the pictured controller will match up with the final product (and the console will assuredly look quite different from the dev unit). Sony's expected to show the PlayStation 3's successor at a New York City event next Wednesday, February 20th, wherein a new version of the company's classic DualShock controller is expected to be unveiled.

Corroborating reports, the pictured controller features a rectangular touchpad in between the standard d-pad and four-button setup, though it's missing the rumored Share button. It's also unclear if the blue light seen atop the controller serves a function -- a stand-in for Move support, perhaps? -- and our sources were unable to clarify. What looks like a speaker grill can be spotted just above a newly lowered PlayStation button, which seems to indicate some form of Wiimote-esque sound functionality built into the controller.

Update: A Sony rep tells us, "We can't comment on rumors or speculation."

Facebook CEO's sis Randi Zuckerberg has book deal

NEW YORK (AP) ? A sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has a two-book deal.

HarperCollins announced Wednesday that Randi Zuckerberg, a social media executive and entrepreneur who left Facebook in 2011, plans a memoir/lifestyle book titled "Dot Complicated" and a children's story.

"Dot Complicated," scheduled for release Nov. 5, will combine personal and professional insights for the digital age, from Zuckerberg's years as Facebook's marketing director to becoming a mother in 2011. "Dot Complicated" also is the name of her online newsletter.

Zuckerberg said in a statement technology has changed almost every part of people's lives, resulting in a digital society "that feels a lot like the wild, wild west."

"I am thrilled to be working with HarperCollins to share some of my own crazy experiences on the front lines of social media and to inspire people of all ages to embrace technology, as well as the new set of social norms that come along with it," she said.

Zuckerberg, who has founded her own Zuckerberg Media company, is known in part for opposing anonymity online, saying it enables cyberbullying. Her brother co-founded Facebook in his Harvard University dorm room in 2004, and his net worth is estimated at $9.4 billion.

UK police arrest 6 people in phone hacking probe

LONDON (AP) ? British police investigating computer hacking and privacy offenses by the media on Wednesday arrested six people alleged to be involved in intercepting voice mails for the defunct News of the World tabloid.

Authorities said the six former journalists for the tabloid were arrested in a new line of inquiry to the ongoing investigation in Operation Weeting, which is one of three investigations into press wrongdoing.

Britain's power structure has been rattled by allegations that the now-closed News of the World hacked people's phones for stories. The allegations and scandal have touched off dozens of arrests. Police say the new suspected conspiracy is believed to have taken place primarily during 2005-2006.

The six were interviewed at police stations in London and Cheshire, and searches were carried out at a number of addresses.

All but one of the suspects were released on bail late Wednesday.

Library of Congress unveils plan to preserve early US sound recordings

Library of Congress unveils plan to preserve early US sound recordings

Historic audio recordings aren't exactly easy to access and play back since they're often in obscure or aging formats and sit within giant repositories and private collections, but the Library of Congress is gearing up to help change that for researchers and the average joe. The outfit's freshly announced National Recording Preservation Plan is headlined by a recommendation to create a publicly accessible national directory of sound recordings that'll act as an "authoritative discography" with details regarding their production and where copies are housed. You'll still have to take a trip to a library to hear the recordings for the time being, but the Library of Congress is hoping to hammer out licensing agreements that would allow for online streaming. Developing new preservation standards and creating university-based degree programs for audio archiving are also among the 32 short- and long-term recommendations spelled out by the document. Swig of water dilutes Republican response to Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Republicans dismissed President Barack Obama's State of the Union address as nothing more than big government spending and more tax increases. But a brief sip of water may have gotten more immediate attention than any policy ideas.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's mid-speech swig from a small Poland Spring water bottle during his GOP response generated instant reaction in social media circles and on cable television, even as Republicans offered fresh appeals on the economy and promises to rein in federal spending.

Rubio appeared to wipe away sweat during his rebuttal from the Speaker's conference room in the U.S. Capitol. At one point he stretched out his left hand, grabbed a small plastic water bottle and took a brief swig of water. As the water break gained notice online, Rubio sent a photo of the bottle from his Twitter account.

On ABC's "Good Morning America" Wednesday, Rubio explained: "I needed water. What are you going to do? God has a funny way of reminding us we're human."

In his GOP address, Rubio urged Obama to "abandon his obsession with raising taxes" and said the president had shifted the nation away from free-market economic principles that had helped middle-class families achieve prosperity.

"Presidents in both parties ? from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan ? have known that our free-enterprise economy is the source of our middle-class prosperity. But President Obama? He believes it's the cause of our problems," Rubio said.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, in a separate tea party response, said both parties had failed voters by driving up trillion-dollar deficits. "Washington acts in a way that your family never could ? they spend money they do not have, they borrow from future generations, and then they blame each other for never fixing the problem," Paul said.

Republicans sought to characterize Obama as overly reliant on government, even as the president made his case to the nation that he could generate new jobs without raising the federal deficit. Defending his policies against GOP critics, Obama said the nation needed a "smarter government" instead of a bigger one and pledged to boost the minimum wage and increase federal spending to fix roads and bridges.

Both Obama's address to Congress and the Republican responses around the Capitol sought to position each party as the champion of average Americans in a nation still grappling with high unemployment and a slow economic recovery. Republicans noted that the nation's jobless rate ticked up to 7.9 percent in January and the economy shrank at an annual rate of 0.1 percent in the final months of 2012.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Obama offered the American people "little more than more of the same 'stimulus' policies that have failed to fix our economy and put Americans back to work. We cannot grow the middle class and foster job creation by growing government and raising taxes."

Ohio Sen. Rob Portman accused Obama of promoting "the same big-government policies that have failed to get our economy up and running again."

Paul, a tea party favorite, said both parties had been guilty of "protecting their sacred cows" and engaging in "backroom deals in which everyone up here wins but every taxpayer loses." He said he would propose to balance the budget in five years and urged lawmakers to return to their duty of passing budgets. If not, Paul said, voters should "sweep the place clean. Limit their terms and send them home."

Rubio, a rising star in the Republican party and a potential 2016 presidential contender, pointed to his Miami roots to address Obama's frequent portrayal of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney ? and his party ? as only caring about the wealthiest Americans. Rubio said he still lived in the "same working-class neighborhood I grew up in" and his neighbors "aren't millionaires" but retirees, workers and immigrants.

"His favorite attack of all is that those who don't agree with him ? that we only care about rich people," Rubio said.

Rubio pre-recorded his speech in Spanish for Spanish-language networks, a nod to Republicans who have said that they must do more to address their deficit with Hispanic voters. Obama won 71 percent of Hispanics last year against Romney, prompting concerns about the party's ability to compete with Democrats in future elections.

New Mexico To Have Two 7-footers In 2013-14

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

New Mexico basketball head coach Steve Alford likes to build from the basket out. Not only do the Lobos possess one of the most coveted centers in college basketball with Alex Kirk, but Alford is expecting to fill the post with yet another 7-footer.

Alford set to address the problem of height for New Mexico two years ago with the recruitment of Kirk, and has certainly filled the void with the 7-foot tandem of Kirk and 2012 recruit Obij Aget.

Aget committed to New Mexico last year and will join the team in June. Though still extremely raw, Aget will provide substantial support for the Lobos in the paint. The Mountain West is an incredibly undersized and New Mexico will be able to capitalize on the deficiencies of their opponents early in 2013.

The Lobos, and Alford, still have a few problems to address in reference to their new asset. Aget has unparalleled size but lacks the strength to be a true force on the block. New Mexico expects Aget to defend the basket and to support the flow of the offense while Kirk is resting on the bench. Kirk, now a sophomore, will most likely stay all four years in a Lobos uniform and should be a good example for Aget early on in the Sudan native?s career.

While playing high school ball for La Lumiere School in Indiana, Aget averaged 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks each game. The Mountain West Conference is the perfect scenario for Aget to develop his talent, as the only player who can stop him is on the same team.

It?s obvious Aget will not make an immediate, dominating impact for New Mexico, but he?s certainly a project worth taking on for Alford and the Lobos. Aget graduated in the Class of 2012, even though he could pull off at least 35-years-old. The 7-footer considered attending Alabama, Florida State, Missouri and Texas in addition to New Mexico.

With two 7-footers likely to receive substantial playing time at the start of the 2013-14 season, it appears that Alford and the Lobos have gotten a bit greedy. Can you blame them?
